Modular Crane Mat SystemsSix Listed Configurations

CPS interlocking UHMW-PE mat systems use defined 1500mm or 1800mm configurations to spread an outrigger reaction over a larger bearing area. Select only from the manufacturer-listed arrangements, using the verified reaction, assessed ground capacity and lift plan.

The System

A Defined Multi-Mat System

The manufacturer guide defines cross-laid interlocking mat arrangements in 1500mm and 1800mm systems. Capacity belongs to the complete stated configuration, not to an individual loose section. The guide illustrates a first layer, a second layer at 90 degrees and a matched round topper; the configuration tables list that topper as optional. The final arrangement must follow the lift plan.

Before You Specify

Six Checks That Define the System

A modular arrangement is not selected from gross crane capacity or ground type alone. Confirm the engineering inputs and the exact manufacturer-listed configuration before use.

Maximum Reaction

Use the verified maximum outrigger reaction for the actual crane configuration and lift.

Ground Capacity

Use a competent, site-specific assessment. Generic soil descriptions are screening inputs only.

Exact Arrangement

Match the 1500mm or 1800mm system, mat count, bearing area and cross-layer orientation.

Load Introduction

Check outrigger-foot contact and whether the listed round topper is required by the lift plan.

Handling Plan

Interlocking sections weigh 41kg or 58kg. Plan suitable people, aids or mechanical handling.

Lift-Plan Approval

The manufacturer calls the configurations indicative. The competent person must approve the final setup.

Capacity is configuration-specific. The figures below apply to the complete stated multi-mat system at a maximum ground pressure of 5 kg/cm². They are not standalone ratings for a single mat and they do not prove that the supporting ground is suitable.

Need a single large pad instead? Heavy Lift pads are a separate product route with their own manufacturer-listed capacities and handling requirements. See the Heavy Lift range →

Manufacturer Guide

Listed System Configurations

These figures are for the complete cross-laid arrangement shown in the CPS interlocking multi-mat guide. Capacities are conditional on a maximum ground pressure of 5 kg/cm² and remain subject to the lift plan.

Specification

System Sizes, Weights & Limits

1500mm system: 1500 x 565 x 50mm interlocking sections, 41kg each. Manufacturer-listed complete arrangements use x2, x5 or x7 mats and provide 1.50m², 2.25m² or 3.00m² bearing areas.

1800mm system: 1800 x 665 x 50mm interlocking sections, 58kg each. Manufacturer-listed complete arrangements use x2, x5 or x7 mats and provide 2.16m², 3.24m² or 4.32m² bearing areas.

Solid sections: 1500 x 500 x 50mm and 1800 x 600 x 50mm products are also available. Do not transfer a complete multi-mat system capacity to a single solid or interlocking section.

Ground and setup: the guide figures assume a maximum ground pressure of 5 kg/cm². Actual ground suitability, load introduction, gaps, debris, orientation and the lift plan still govern the final arrangement.

The ground bearing calculator and pad size calculator are screening tools. They do not approve ground conditions or a modular configuration.

Common Questions

Modular Mat FAQ

Are modular crane mats the same as a multi mat system?

The terms are often used for sectional load-spreading systems. CPS uses interlocking UHMW-PE composite mats in defined cross-laid arrangements; always identify the exact product, mat count and configuration rather than relying on a generic name.

How many sections do I need?

Start with the verified maximum outrigger reaction and a competent ground assessment. Compare the screening area with one of the six manufacturer-listed arrangements, then have the exact setup confirmed in the lift plan. Do not create an unlisted capacity by simply adding sections.

Can I mix sizes and interlocking sections?

Do not mix sizes or solid and interlocking sections by assumption. Use the exact manufacturer-listed arrangement or obtain written manufacturer or engineering confirmation for a different setup.

Why UHMW-PE instead of aluminium or timber?

Material alone does not make a system suitable. Choose the arrangement from the verified reaction, assessed ground, bearing area, contact geometry, handling plan and the evidence required by the competent person.
