Why HIAB Cranes Need Proper Outrigger Pads

Lorry loaders and HIAB cranes operate on delivery sites, roadsides and construction yards where ground conditions are unpredictable. Standard timber mats are heavy, split and absorb water. Steel plates concentrate load instead of spreading it.

UHMW-PE outrigger pads are purpose built for lorry loader stabilisers. They are lightweight enough for one person to handle, distribute load effectively across soft ground and last years without rotting or cracking.

Most HIAB and lorry loader cranes need pads in the 400mm to 500mm range. Our CPS Essential range is designed for exactly this. Recessed models sit flush over the outrigger foot so the pad stays in place during deployment. Stowage kits bolt to the truck so pads are always with the vehicle.

Choosing the Right Pad

Essential vs Premium for Lorry Loaders

Most HIAB and lorry loader cranes have outrigger feet between 150mm and 300mm diameter. The right pad depends on the crane's outrigger load and how the pad will be used.

  • Light HIABs (up to 15T per leg): CPS Essential recessed pads, from £65
  • Mid HIABs (up to 25T per leg): Essential 500x500x60mm recessed or Premium 600mm round
  • Heavy lorry loaders (25T+): Premium 800mm or 1000mm round pads
  • Fleet supply: Essential stowage kits so every truck has pads on board
