Practical answers for choosing, ordering and using CPS outrigger pads.

Which pad size do I need?

Start with the maximum reaction at the relevant outrigger, the assessed allowable bearing pressure for the actual support and the exact pad specification. The pad-size calculator screens candidate areas; it does not approve a lift or replace an assessment.

Can I divide the total crane weight by the number of outriggers?

No. Use the maximum relevant outrigger reaction from the machine information or lift plan for the operating configuration. Reactions can differ between outriggers and change during operation.

What does the pad load rating mean?

A supplier-listed structural rating is separate from ground bearing pressure. Its conditions, outrigger-foot size, pad support, effective area and deflection must be checked. A high pad rating does not establish that the ground can support the load.

What if I do not know the ground capacity?

Do not treat a surface description or a low assumed number as proof that the site is suitable. Obtain an assessment of the ground or supporting structure, including layers, voids, buried services and edges. Indicative calculator examples are for early comparison only. What is the difference between the two calculators?

Use pad-size screening when you need a candidate area. Use ground-pressure screening when you already have a pad or dimensions to check. Both need the reaction and an appropriate bearing-value input.

What does the 80% screening threshold mean?

CPS screens at up to 80% of the entered bearing limit. The required area is load force divided by 0.8 times that limit: this is 25% more area than the raw calculation. It is an early-screening reserve, not a universal safety factor or a substitute for project-specific design.

Square or round?

Compare actual bearing area and the manufacturer’s conditions for the outrigger foot and support. A round pad has less area than a square pad of the same overall width. Shape alone does not determine suitability. See the size comparison chart.

Do all pads have rope handles?

Handle arrangements vary by product. Many standard pads have rope handles; Heavy Lift products can use chain or steel-bar arrangements. Check the exact product sheet. Position and handle the pad using a plan appropriate to its weight and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Can I combine modular sections or stack pads?

Use only the exact manufacturer-approved configuration and its conditions. Do not add individual ratings together or assume that any stack or topper is suitable. Send CPS the required arrangement, reaction, foot size and assessed ground information for a configuration check.

Are spreader plates and outrigger pads the same thing?

The terms are often used for products that spread an outrigger reaction over a larger bearing area. Materials, stiffness and approved arrangements differ, so verify the exact specification rather than relying on the name.

Is delivery included, and when will the pads arrive?

Delivery is not automatically included in the pad price. Eligible online orders show the charge at checkout; project, remote and unusual-access deliveries need confirmation. Can I get a fleet or project quotation?

Yes. Send the product or size, quantity, delivery postcode and required date through our contact page. For sizing help, include the reaction, assessed bearing value and its reference, outrigger-foot size and intended arrangement if available.

How should I inspect the pads, and can I return an order?
